I have to side with Halep here. The head-to-head record between the pair doesn’t lie, this is a good match-up for world number 1. Halep holds a 6-2 record over Stephens and has won the last 5 meetings between the pair including the Roland Garros final earlier this year.

Halep is arguably the only player on tour that can match the power and athleticism of Stephens, this is what makes this a bad match-up for the American. It is Halep who is usually more patient in extended rallies and outlasts Sloane more often than not from the baseline. The second serve of Stephens looked shaky against Svitolina and that will be an issue against Halep. Halep has played superb tennis in her last couple of matches and is seemingly on track for a second Rogers Cup title.
