Why You Should Back with Caution at the End of the Football Season

At the start of the football league season, and during the main part of it, you can happily back any team you think will win the game and know that they are going to field their best possible team. You also know they will be trying to win the game, and won’t be thinking about anything else. However, when it comes to the end of the season, there is something else to consider, and this makes betting on football match outcome tougher.

Teams with Nothing to Play For

As the season draws to a close, there will be teams in every single league around the world that have nothing to play for. These teams cannot be promoted or challenge for anything at the top of the table like European places, but they are also safe from relegation so does not have to win to avoid that. These teams are the hardest teams to bet on during the final weeks of the season, and the advice with them is to avoid unless you are 100% sure about them winning a game.

There are many different things they can do that will harm their chances of winning a game because of the position they are in. The first is, of course, their mindset, if they have nothing to play for, will players put 100% into the game? The second, and perhaps the one that is most dangerous from a betting point of view, is will they field a full strength team? Will the manager want to take a look at some fringe players with next season in mind, or will they play some youngsters, and give them the chance to shine with a view to next season. Not every team will do this for every game, but when looking at teams with nothing to play for, if you are going to back them it is advisable to wait until an hour before kick-off so you can take a look at the starting eleven.

You can take nothing for granted with these teams towards the end of the season, and they are ones to back with caution for sure, even if they look to be a good thing on paper.

Teams with Everything to Play For

While those with nothing to play for should be avoided towards the end of the football season from a betting point of view, teams that have everything to play for can often be inspired to put in much better performances. For example, a team who has been struggling all season and are part of a relegation battle can often find good performances from nowhere, because they are desperate to survive.

Something that should be taken into account is how important the game is for each team, and how much each team wants to win the game. For example, a mid-table team with nothing to play for playing against a team at the bottom with everything to play for may look like a banker win for the mid-table team. However, when you factor in the fact that the bottom club are desperate for three points, and the mid-table club may play a couple of youngsters to give them a run in the first team, all of a sudden the result looks less likely.

If I am backing on a game like this, I would always choose to side with the team that has something to play for. Despite the difference in class, if I am backing a team to win, I actually want them to really want to win the game. This means I am backing someone who will be going out and giving it their all, and that is what I want when I am putting my money down.

Stick to the End of Season Rules

It can often really help football gamblers to change the rules of betting slightly when looking at games towards the end of the season. Often in these games, the circumstances surrounding league positions can have a big impact on who will win the game. It is not often the best team throughout the season that will win games towards the end of the season, especially if they have nothing to play for. Teams that have previously struggled, but are now desperate for points can often come to life towards the end of the season and are often where the value is found on the football coupon.

When looking at a game between a team that has nothing to play for, and one that has everything to play for, I will always side with the latter. If I am putting my money down, I want to be certain that the team I am backing is going out there and trying their best to win the game, and playing their best available eleven. I do not want to be backing a team that has nothing to play for, one that may not be putting 100% into the game, and playing players with an eye on next season, instead of the best eleven players they have available.

Many punters often find the end of the season the toughest to bet on, but that is because they use the same rule as they have done throughout the rest of the season. The end of the season needs to be viewed at differently, and you need to use different rules when placing your bets. Look for teams that have everything to play for, and don’t be drawn in by teams that have done well all season, but all of a sudden have nothing to play for as they may look to rest players and try new things.

The end of the football season is around the corner for many leagues, so make sure you think about your betting and approach it in a different way as the end approaches. This is often a tough time for punters, so don’t let it be for you this year.
