Nakashima has been the story of the last fortnight after reaching the Montreal final, but he lost that match to Ben Shelton only three days ago and now has to back it up in a Masters third round with almost no rest. Medvedev has had the lighter week and owns the head-to-head 3-0, the most recent of those a 6-2 7-6(1) win in the Brisbane final earlier this season. His own form has been patchy since the coaching change, which is why the market has this close to a coin flip rather than making him a clear favourite. Stylistically though it still suits him: his depth and court coverage force Nakashima to come up with the shot-making, and that is the harder job with tired legs. Backing the fresher player who has never lost in the series at around even money is the right side.
