Frenchman Lucas Pouille managed to hold off Aussie wildcard Alexei Popyrin in an epic five-setter but he was far from convincing in that performance. He had multiple match points in the third set but couldn't close out the match against a very inexperienced opponent and was extremely fragile whenever he played from the net.
On the flip-side, 22 year-old Croatian Borna Coric has showed plenty of promise this summer at Melbourne Park and he is starting to announce himself on the big stage. He's only dropped one set so far at the Aus Open his best should be too good for Pouille.
Furthermore, Coric has beaten Pouille in their two prior meetings on the ATP tour and we think that trend will continue. We're backing Coric to win in straight set for more value.
