France v Australia Preview and Prediction

On Saturday morning, France and Australia kick-off their World Cup campaigns in Group C, as the heavily fancied Les Bleus look to make a winning start in Russia.

France are heavy favourites to top the group, while Didier Deschamps side are also one of most highly-rated teams in the competition.

Les Bleus recorded seven wins from their ten qualification games and in the end booked their place in Russia 2018 in relatively simple fashion.

Deschamps side are unbeaten in four international matches. In fact, a 1-1 draw with the USA last time out ended a three-game winning run for Group C favourites. They know the pressure is on to deliver this time around.

Australia have only appeared at four previous World Cups. However, three of those appearances came in the last three World Cups. The Socceroo’s have failed to make it past the group stage in 2010 and 2014.

Veteran Aussie forward Tim Cahill could make history if he scores in Russia, as he will become only the fourth player ever to score in four World Cups alongside the great Pele, Uwe Seeler and Miroslav Klose.

The 38-year-old is however likely to start on the bench for this clash, so could have to wait to write his name in the history books.
