Russia v Egypt Preview and Prediction

World Cup hosts Russia face Egypt in the second game of Group A, as the home side looks to book their place in the knockout stages of the competition.

The two teams had very different starts to the competition, as Russia hammered Saudi Arabia 5-0, while Egypt suffered a slightly unfortunate 1-0 defeat against Uruguay.

The host nation surprised everybody with their big victory over the Saudi’s, as they had struggled in their warm-up games. In fact, Stanislav Cherchesov’s side had entered the competition on the back of a seven-match winless run.

For Russia, two-goal hero from the opening game Denis Cheryshev is likely to start this game in place of the injured Alan Dzagoev.

Egypt looked set to start to the competition with a creditable goalless draw against Uruguay. However, a goal in the final few minutes of the clash with the South American saw the African side suffer a heart-breaking 1-0 defeat.

The disciplined display against Uruguay will give Hector Cuper’s side hope of recording a positive result in this clash. The big difference in this clash will be that Liverpool star Mohamed Salah is likely to start this game after only making the bench for the opener.
